The perfect typeface can make or break a design. When creating your print piece, you may want to branch out past Times New Roman and Arial. But a quick jaunt out to some font websites will reveal that fonts can be pricey. For a designer who will use them regularly, the cost may be worth it. But if you’re not quite ready to fork over that cash for a typeface, there’s good news! There are a few great resources for free fonts, 100% available for commercial use.

1. FontSquirrel

FontSquirrel is a great go-to for everything from decorative title fonts to lovely serif and sans-serif typefaces for body type. Every font listed on this site is completely free for commercial use. Some of the fonts are curated from other sites and will link you to those sites to download, but they are clearly marked as “offsite” links.

Some favorite FontSquirrel standouts:

A clean sans-serif with a bit of unique personality that helps it stand out from a sea of other more common sans-serif typefaces. It comes in a multitude of 18 available styles, including various weights and italicized versions.

A friendly, modern serif font that’s great for use in print or on screens.

A solid headline or title font. It’s easily readable, bold, and since it’s narrow, you can fit more words in a smaller space without sacrificing legibility.

FontSquirrel is an easy-to-navigate site, with clear search filters, and is a fantastic place to start when searching for the perfect typeface.

2. CreativeFabrica

CreativeFabrica is a website that features various design resources, from stock images and graphics to fonts. Their selection of freebies rotates out on a timed basis, but they’re a great source for standout script or decorative headline fonts.

You will need to create an account to log in and access the fonts, but the account is free. You can also sign up to receive regular notifications when new free fonts are posted.

3. FontBundles

Like CreativeFabrica, you’ll need to sign up for a free account on this site to download their fonts. It, too, tends to feature decorative and script fonts rather than ones appropriate for body copy, but there are some unique options here.
