Could you tell us a bit about your business/organization?
Founded in 1960 and based in Hesston, Kansas, Excel Industries is a leading manufacturer of Hustler Turf and BigDog Mower Co. premium commercial and residential mowers and power equipment.
In 1964, Excel introduced The Hustler, creating an entirely new product category now known as the zero-turn mower. Excel Industries and its affiliates have a global distribution network of more than 2,000 U.S. dealers and 30 distributors worldwide. Our brands signify innovation, performance, reliability and loyalty.
What is your role at your business?
As the Technical Documentation Group Leader, I oversee the creation of our product support documentation.
Briefly describe the products that POD Print provides to you.
POD Print provides product manuals for both the Hustler Turf and BigDog Mower Co. products. These manuals support domestic and export markets.
What are some common challenges that you face at your business?
In an ever-changing world of outdoor power equipment, our mission is to provide better products that improve people’s lives. In order to do this, we must be flexible and agile. As leaders in the industry we must be innovative in all aspects of our product and delivery. This includes our printed products that accompany the equipment. They must be produced in a way that meets Excel’s standard for quality and delivery.
Are there any specific printing-related challenges you’ve come
across in your work, and how were they resolved?
One challenge we faced was how we printed the product manuals for our European market. These used to be printed at Excel and shipped in a 3-ring binder. This added burden to our production system and equipment. Working with POD Print, we were able to develop a professionally bound book that was well received by our customers and reduced the burden on our systems.

Our goal is to deliver quality products in a timely manner to our customers. POD Print helps us do this by providing excellent quality manuals to our facility when we need them. Having a printing company who is responsive to order changes and short lead times helps Excel win.
